About

Hi Everyone,

So this is me ;) Don’t ask me if this is the best picture or not since I just don’t like to be on them. But, this one is taken by my girlfriend and she just has a good eye and feeling when it come to designs and… pictures.

So who am I?

For starters, I have 20+ years of experience in the graphical sector and this includes litho and packaging. I studied for traditional graphic arts in Antwerp, Belgium and it’s only when we were about to finish our 5 years that they introduced the digital aspect of designing on computers (gosh, I can still remember those Apple Macintoshes standing there, trying to impress us… and they did). After my studies I took an extra 2 week course to master the ScanGraphic TypeSetter, which at that time of age was very well known in the pre-press to create your lay-outs on.

When I was about to finish this course, I was given my first job for a recent started family company that soon was to be specialized in the litho pre-press. I worked there for a couple of years until sadly enough they grew so big they couldn’t handle it, and started misspending the well earned money we made. At that point I started working for one of the main newspaper printers in Antwerp (Verheyen) and after a little while started doing lots more then just artwork and scanning materials. Soon I was involved in their digital photo studio (new setup), their digital press (which was also one of the first in Antwerp) and in their IT management. Needless to say, I learned lots there. After this adventure I switched to another little company but didn’t stayed to long, and just went on to work for Schawk Inc Belgium. Schawk Inc Belgium was the Belgian division of the Schawk Inc, who are one of the top global suppliers for the packaging industry. I learned lots of new stuff there and after 2 years they outsourced me to a small team in a client factory across the Belgian border in the Netherlands.

In 2006, for family reasons we decided to move to London and slowly I started working to start as a freelance web designers. Not because everyone seems to be doing that, but because I feel I have a unique perspective to offer which other “web designers” forgotten about… readability. That said, I have to ad that starting your own career in London is a really difficult thing, even more when you don’t have the connections but… I am doing what I want to, and that’s the most important thing for me at this moment… well, not including my wonderful girlfriend :)
